I just came across your site by accident. it is a real honest breath of fresh air for any body with this healthy hobby at heart. "Congratulations and I applaud you". I have been writing songs now for over 30 years purely as a hobby. I would like though to correspond with somebody who would like to collaborate by supplying mostly lyrics that would suit some of my unfinished compositions. If you have any willing contacts I would be thrilled. Neil McTavish - Tue, Feb 2nd, 2010 8:55 AM PST I just wanted to thank you for everything you do for beginning songwriters. I really enjoy your email and your song analysis. I attended your song analysis class at the Taxi convention with my 14 year old daughter (my cowriter!). Your joyful presentation and speaking style really brought the subject to life. I loved your tips and methods on how to analyze songs. It really inspired me and my daughter and made us realize that "we can do this"! Thanks again! Neil Alfred Earl - Mon, Feb 1st, 2010 11:40 PM PST Hi Robin, Thank you. I have really read some valueable tips today. Thanks again and GOD BLESS. Alfred Earl. Alfred Earl - Mon, Feb 1st, 2010 10:42 PM PST Hi Robin, I have been reading a lot about you from Taxi, but still not read your book. I tried to buy the same by looking around book shops but could not find a copy. I have been writing poetry from 14 years old, and wrote some songs and had them done in Nashville. One of the songs is "Dont Suffer The Loss Of Your Soul" this song speaks about corruption, terror and drugs. I am a sailor and sailed around this globe many times, from what I have seen it is true. Thanks and GOD BLESS. Alfred. Keith Elder - Thu, Jan 21st, 2010 7:25 PM PST Your book is great, Robin! Has it all. Bob Pridgen - Tue, Jan 12th, 2010 4:02 PM PST I got your book yesterday and finished it today. I just couldn't put it down. I still have the exercises to do. I had no idea there were so many rules, but they seem pretty simple. I wanted to let you know about Audacity. It is freeware software - like Pro Tools but easier to use, for me anyway. I put the URL in and it didn't like that. You can google it though. I am 56 and have been playing guitar since I was 14. I have written several songs that I was never completely satisfied with. Now I can fix them up. I had no idea there were books on songwriting (Duh!). I got a music book from Amazon and they recommended your book. So I bought it right away. I took a 4 part harmonic writing class in 1985, with that knowledge and your book, there is no stopping me now. Thanks for writing the book, it is awesome! Bob from Boise, Idaho Annonymous - Sun, Jan 10th, 2010 12:47 PM PST Hi, great explaination will take your recommendations on writing a story on board. XD john anker - Mon, Jan 4th, 2010 11:22 AM PST love your book.i write lyrics only and have about ten songs.i am in the copyright process but find this confusing(i'm a simple guy)do you have any tips? i plan on entering the song of the year contest .i want to join ascap and taxi.should this be done after the copyright? thanks so much for your time..john. Hi John - If you only have lyrics you can copyright those using Form CO. Just go to the web site of the copyright office - http://www.copyright.gov - and follow the directions for Form CO. I do recommend copyrighting your lyrics before submitting them to contests. You don't need to join ASCAP until you have a song that's being played on radio, TV, or performed on stage. Unfortunately TAXI doesn't have pitching ops for lyrics only. Consider getting together with a collaborator who can write melodies for your lyrics. Good luck!- Robin Kate Northrop - Mon, Jan 4th, 2010 4:32 AM PST Hi Robin! I am currently reading (and using!) your book, and I just want to tell you it's wonderful! I write lyrics in English for the European market, where simplicity of language is of essence and clichés are unfortunately rampant. I love your approach of mixing poetic language with explanation (shortcut 60)! It makes creative imagery more accesable for non-native speakers. Yay!!! That's a great idea! Thanks for letting me know, Kate. - Robin Thanks & best wishes, Kate Ambassador Charlie Ray - Tue, Dec 29th, 2009 12:13 PM PST You're providing valuable infomation. This site is great. Ambassador Charlie Ray sandra krof - Mon, Dec 28th, 2009 5:08 AM PST Thank you Robin. Loved your heartfelt and wise piece on Nick Drake. A lady that knows her craft. Thank you for sharing it. Viggo Thompson - Wed, Dec 9th, 2009 9:52 PM PST I'm 65 years old and have enjoyed most genres of music all my life. I don't sing nor do I play and instrument. Song lyics have always fasinated me. Some of the songs I enjoy the most seem to have the most basic lyics,,, I'm always amazed at how great of a story a song with simple straight forward lyics can tell. I viewed several other web sites on song writing,,, but I keep coming back to this one. I am going to attempt to write the lyics for my first song,,,,, any tips????? Hi Viggo - I think it's wonderful that you're going to try your hand at a lyric. good for you! There are lots of tips on this site. Check out mr Songwriting Tips page or the Songwriter's Sandbox, plus I give lots of tips on my Twitter page which are carried right here on my home page. But the best tip is to write about something you caer about and keep listeners in mind - try to make them feel what you feel. - Robin Fame - Thu, Dec 3rd, 2009 5:48 AM PST I love you. I enjoyed learning your system and am using it to analyse my own songs. Thank you for your clear analysis and engaging presentation. I took away some exceptional tools this weekend. JT Michael - Tue, Nov 10th, 2009 12:47 AM PST Robin, Thanks so much for your classes at Taxi. I wanted to let you know that if you used multiple examples of a 'technique' in a song then it would make it easier to understand. For example, I didn't understand what you were talking about when you gave the rhythm count in the Beyonce song....but when you played the second song then I could hear it right away. It made a difference! I really liked how you did that. Your classes where great...you teach great material. Also, HELP! I've been attempting to do a rhythm count on Britney Spear's "Womanizer" and I can't seem to figure it out! Can you please break it down? Her rhythms are great...I just haven't gotten the hang of understanding the rhythm counts yet! (And I was 'spoonfed' the Funk growing up!) Thanks so much, Robin for making such a difference with so many with your courses and your book. I hope to take another class with you soon. Much success and happiness to you! Love - JT Hi JT - Thanks for letting me know you liked the class and which things were helpful for you! I really appreciate it. As far as counting melodies - I'd suggest starting with a few easier songs, then working your way up to the Britney Spears track. Some of the R&B/Pop songs and Dance/Pop songs get very complex. Check out a few older pop songs (they're easier), then work your way up! Good luck!!! - Robin Barry ten Have - Tue, Nov 3rd, 2009 11:24 PM PST I really like the tips you give on a daily basis. They help. Thanks, Barry! Glad to hear my Twitter tips are useful for you. - Robin aliceia - Tue, Nov 3rd, 2009 3:49 PM PST nice and simple Terry Weatherbe - Fri, Oct 30th, 2009 8:10 PM PDT I hope to be eventually get your book Shortcuts to Hit Songwriting 126 Proven techniques.
