Hi Robin, I stumbled across your website using google. I have been writing lyrics since I was in grade 2, and now I'm 45. This has been a secret, yet passionate hobby of mine for a long time. Mostly I write when the inspiration hits me, and at that moment I take 10 minutes to write out the lyrics. Every one of those songs seem feels like a hit song because I can hear and visualize everything. You know where the term "lives in his own little world" comes from now, right! lol None the less, once in a while I have the desire to write about something specific, and thats a different story all together. I really have to role up the sleeves to crank those lyrics out. Its a battle to find a melody, its a lot more time consuming and simply less fun to do. But, now that I've read this article of yours, it seems that you have laid out a road map for song writing. Its never crossed my mind that someone would do that. I assumed technics like that would be trade secrets or something... I am going to buy your book. The timing is perfect, I am having one of my songs professionally recorded for the first time. I'm just now learning about Taxi and other resources, and now I'm thinking of taking this passionate little hobby of mine to a new level. I think its time to come out of the closet, hopefully its not to late. Maybe good things will happens. Thanks! Ray Annabel - Mon, Mar 26th, 2012 8:12 AM PDT Robin - I look forward to buying your book. Your tips have been so helpful. Maybe one day I will be able to get a record deal in Nashville. Thanks for sharing such valuable information to all your fellow songwriters.... We appreciate all you share.... Stay Blessed, Mary Eaton Thanks for your kind words and for the link, Mary Both are much appreciated! - Robin Jamie - Sun, Mar 4th, 2012 11:51 PM PST Your articles are wonderfully educational, thank you so much! I've always written poetry but I've recently become interested in songwriting so your site is going to help me alot. I was glad to hear that I'm not the only one out there in my exact position...I wrote two "songs" today and made almost every mistake you mentioned..lol. I wrote the song first and then titled it, I rhymed everything, and had writers block for hours because I didn't do any brainstorming. Again, your site and information are much appreciated and if I do any successful songwriting I'll be sure to come and thank you;) Even if I don't become successful, I'll be back! Thank you. Thank YOU, Jamie! I really enjoyed your post. - Robin Annie - Fri, Mar 2nd, 2012 5:48 PM PST Thank you so much Robin, you really inspired me to give a try,to start from somewhere, Your illustration sounds fun, simple but magic... Jim Fiegen San Marcos CA Tim Wright - Sat, Jan 7th, 2012 8:03 AM PST Robin, Wow!!! Wow!!! Wow!!! I just listened to "California Girl" for the first time. What a great marriage of melody, lyric and instrumentation. Talk about evoking emotion! The way you describe the fish being silver arrows, the blood red sunset, eating Sushi for breakfast... puts me right there on the beach. Brian Wilson must love this song!!! I love how your chorus lifts and then resolves with the memory of how you were his "California Girl." Your voice is so beautiful. I hear the longing in this song for that brief moment in time...for that perfect love. Oh, how I wish time could stand still as well. Thanks for the 3 minute trip to Venice Beach ( I once surfed there in 1969 - early morning before the fog burned off.) Yes, men were walking on the moon that same week and a hillbilly from Indiana was trying to figure out what Brian Wilson had been writing songs about. Tim Thank you so much, Tim, for ALL your kind words... especially welcome from a songwriter as good as you are! - Robin Tim Wright - Sat, Jan 7th, 2012 6:18 AM PST Robin, I kind of thought you might be a lady due to your kind responses to me. It seems that guys don't normally take that much time to soothe another man's bruised ego. Thanks! Got your books. Love your website. I should've been visiting it prior to my barrage of questions to you! You are very kind indeed to have written those responses. In this business of "dog eat dog," (sorry for the cliche') the responses you've written to me stand out like a beacon of hope - artistically and simply from a human to human standpoint. You are one who truly wants to help others. Thanks! 59 and tryin' - Tim Wright Cho - Tue, Dec 13th, 2011 7:46 AM PST I read your article, "Shortcuts to Hit Songwriting," and I must say it is the most concise process outline I've read to date. Thank you for sharing this. Michelle - Sun, Dec 11th, 2011 9:12 PM PST I wanted to know the song that was sung at the end if the show where all the moms and kids would sit together and sing. My daughter is now 26 and I remember her running to get me to sing it with her every day and I cant remember what it was or the words and would really like to have it now...... Hi Michelle - I don't know the song that was used at the end of the show but you might be able to get a copy on one of the four VHS tapes that was released by the Disney Channel. You can sometimes find them on eBay. YouTube has a copy of the opening song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-m_N5DXjxE Check to see if someone has posted the closing song there. George T - Sat, Dec 10th, 2011 10:51 PM PST I read your Hit Songwriting book and now I'm deep into the Film & TV songwriting book. I NEVERTHOUGHT ABOUT THIS STUFF!!! But it's so obvious when you start watching and listening. Thank you SO much for makign me LOOK and LISTEN! annalise - Sat, Dec 10th, 2011 10:06 PM PST Your books have changed my song writing. I used to struggle to write a song. Now I just use the shortcuts and I find its easy to write really GOOD songs!!! Thank YOU! Lisa - Sat, Jul 23rd, 2011 6:42 PM PDT I loved your 80's show.. i would exercise and then cuddle with my mom for the closing song :) Mary - Tue, Jul 19th, 2011 6:47 PM PDT @LJeffcoat: I have the lyrics to Just You and Me. I saved them from a January 1984 Disney Channel magazine. However, I don't have the music. Do you still need them? LJeffcoat - Mon, Jul 11th, 2011 3:51 PM PDT I have been looking for the lyrics to Just You and Me, Kid by Robin Frederick but seem to be spinning my wheels! Can anybody help me? Myreete - Wed, Jul 6th, 2011 8:37 PM PDT I think writing is something that comes with shear determination. There may be some people who are born with a natural gift of lyrics, but I am not one of them. I looked up many many sites about all of this information and I must say, Thank you for seemingly taking your time with me. Very informative. Thank you. I just hope my determination takes control of me sometime soon; I have too many thoughts to write down with a rhyme involved for it not to. jon puhl - Wed, Jun 29th, 2011 4:33 PM PDT Robin, I have been looking all over for the song "Just you and me, kid". I am getting married on July 23, and I wanted to use the song for my mother-son dance. Can you direct me in the right direction? I used to each the show with my mother when I was young, and she would sing the song to me. It would be a great treat and surprise for her. Hi Jon - Unfortunately I don't have a copy of the recording myself and, to my knowledge, it has never been released on a CD of any kind. However, at Amazon, there are episodes of the show "Just You and Me Kid" available on VHS. Each includes, I think, four episodes. You could take the audio outputs of the VCR and record the song on to cassette or into your computer where you could then burn it to CD. Just be aware that it's a short song. I think the longest version runs about a minute. Hope that helps! - Robin Guillermo - Tue, Jun 28th, 2011 5:38 AM PDT Hi Robin, your book helps me to improve everything about my music every day, I have no words to decribe how much I love this book, I am constanly reading it over and over again to keep my mind on track! This book (114 stsf film&tv) is a tool for everyone's writing music, it doesn't matter if you are a pro or amateur, it will help you to understand what is all about music writing. Thank you very very much Robin. Thank you VERY much! You made my day. BTW, if you have an Amazon.com account, I'd love it if you'd leave a review there. It's a big help and reaches LOTS of songwriters. - Robin << Previous page Next page >> |
